Double Steps to Swimming Pool - Cobble Walls to Screen Driveways & Patio Paving

Category: Driveways, Patio, Paving & Walls

Garden Design Project: DWSAGP001

Cobble

The clients wanted a modern garden to be in keeping with their house and the design was to work around the existing garage and Swimming Pool while masking the Driveways.

Safer Steps were built using limestone Patio Paving which now links the Lawn to the family dining area.

A bespoke fence was built using green oak as this will soften to grey in time.

Driveways

The garage was overpowering so the existing fence and the Brick arch leading to the Driveways was removed and a new Cobble Wall built.

The garden has been enclosed, reshaped and restyled with clean modern lines which is softened by the Walls of Cobbles.

A second set of wide Paving Steps links the Pool to the lower lawn exposing the Cobbles between each step.

Walls

The Planting is simple but striking and creates a mood of tranquillity.

The newly planted Magnolia looks great against the natural Stone Walls.

As it grows taller not only will it give greater privacy but also lend character to the garden.

Paving

A template was created so the steps could be cut off site and the front edge was machined to a rounded shape.

Between the two sets of steps we planted a box 'cloud hedge' to disguise the Swimming Pool wall and rebalance the uncomfortably wide garden.

A gentle undulating curve runs across the width of the garden making reference to water.

Patio

The open nature of the fence allows climbing plants to be planted on the rear side of the fence and then trained through.

Plants with good green foliage or white flowers were chosen. Buxus Sempervirens, Hydrangea Annabelle, Alchemilla Mollis, Magnolia Grandiflora, Clematis Florida Plena, Hydrangea Petiolars and Helleborus Foetidus.
