Millstone Random Patio Paving & Log Cabin - Driveways & Paving

patio This Driveways project started out as just a garden clearance.

The garden was overgrown and there were lots of brick and concrete structures including a substantially built ornamental Pond.

This took about two weeks to clear, using concrete breakers, mini excavator and a tipper truck to cart away the waste materials in preparation for the new Patio Paving.

Then the client, Bob, decided that the garden had real potential and we both designed the garden as we went along with me doing all the work.

There was a lot of excavating and carting away.

All the fencing had to be made higher and stronger to retain the higher ground next door. The garden is on two levels, so Steps had to be constructed.

We decided that the steps should be part of the feature leading from the Patio to the Lawn at the top of the garden for the children to play. New top soil was imported and New Turf laid.

The Patio area was designed by both Bob and I, with some help from Stonemaket, the suppliers of the Millstone Random Paving. The Sunburst design in the center was created using a computer generated design program.

The base was laid using Type 1 quarry roadstone 100mm deep and compacted with a roller. The Patio Paving slabs were laid on sand and cement base and grouted with wet cement.

Bob decided that he would like a Log Cabin.

So then I had to build a concrete base and install all the services.

patio

The base was 150mm of reinforced concrete, sloping 25 mm from the centre, as to allow for drainage. I also had to install drainage channels to take excess water from the steps and Patio areas.

The Log Cabin was going to be the new office and music rehearsal studio, so I had to install ducting for the electrics, water pipes for washing, shower and toilet.

The whole project took me about three months to construct in 2006 and Bob and his wife were extremely proud of my work.

I have returned to visit on many occasions and took the photos a year later.

I have had many recommendations from this project including Driveways, Flower Beds and Garden Structures. I am still friends with the family and also very proud of the project.
