Free Landscaping Ideas for Your Garden

Looking for landscape design ideas? There are plenty of free landscaping ideas to be had and they can turn your backyard landscape into something truly special. One great idea is to take a look at the various garden design pictures on the site and see if there are any landscape ideas you would like to incorporate into your own landscape plans.

Water Features

These are perhaps one of the best ways to add interest to a garden. You can create a simple pond with rocks and plants around it, maybe include a few Koi for movement and fun. However, if you are very limited on time and money, then a simple fountain can be just as lovely. For smaller spaces, a wall mount fountain will work just fine, or you can opt for a more elaborate one that stands alone.

Waterfalls, while more elaborate, can be a nice addition to a garden, as well and water walls make the perfect quick and easy water feature for your backyard landscape.

Green Walls

Running out of space to plant? A living wall is just one of the many free landscaping ideas that can turn your yard into a one of a kind space. These are walls that have pouches or boxes hanging off of them to hold soil and plants. They are relatively easy to set up and you can easily create a beautiful green wall that stands alone as a garden.

Raised Flower Beds

There are several reasons for using raised beds, including protecting plants and keeping the beds at an easier to reach height. It can also create a lovely effect if you use something like stones or bricks to build the beds. There's nothing saying that they have to be rectangular, either, you can easily create any shape that comes to mind. Between the beds, you will have paths and the beds themselves may be tiered.

Sculpted Shrubs

A fairly simple method of making your landscaping come alive is to use a form and add a couple of climbing vines to create a pretty shaped plant feature. You can also prune an existing shrub into a shape, as desired or using a form. These may be any shape you desire, a ball, a zig zag, animal shapes, etc.

Terracing

While this does require more time and effort than many other landscape design ideas, terracing can turn an otherwise unusable hillside into a beautiful garden landscape. This is achieved by digging into the hill to create a variety of levels, each of which can be planted with the flowers of your choice. A winding footpath will give you access to everything, or you may opt for steps. Stone works well for retaining walls if they are needed, and will look quite lovely. Landscape Lighting

To really enjoy your landscaping efforts, it's a good idea to light the place up. There are plenty of options in landscape lighting, including solar lights and torches. Which type of light you choose will depend on the effect you are going for. Smaller lights may be hidden in the foliage, while spotlights will help pick up highlights, like water features, etc. Solar lamps are useful since they don't require an electrical connection and will shine soft light on paths and nearby plants. These can be quite unobtrusive, just lighting the path and not glaring in your eyes.

These are just a few of the free landscaping ideas available for your backyard landscape. You can easily find more landscape design ideas simply by looking at the different pictures of gardens and other people's landscape plans, as well.
