Landscaping Gardening Tools: Used Tools, Tool Store or Garden Centre?

While everyone has the standard Gardening Tools in the shed, if you are serious about Landscaping, you will need something a bit more specific. Your local Tool Store will likely have the basics, but for more specialized tools, check out a Garden Centre, where you may find exactly what you need.

Unfortunately, tools of trade can be fairly expensive and while they are a good investment, you may wish to buy some Used Tools to help reduce costs. Here are some of the Gardening Tools you will want to have on hand for any Landscaping projects you plan to tackle. It is assumed that you have the basic spade and rake already.

Pruning Shears or Trimmers

Often, Landscaping requires removing or drastically altering existing shrubs and trees. That means you will need at least two shears, one for heavy duty work like cutting off small branches and a trimmer that will handle the mere trimming of bushes and shrubs.

Most landscapers have several different tools for these jobs, since they can vary quite a bit. You may even need a chain saw for some jobs where an entire tree or very large branch needs to be removed.

Lawn Edger

For creating nice clean edges for laying a path or setting a flower bed, nothing beats a lawn edger. This Landscaping tool is found in any Garden Centre and is designed to cut cleanly through the turf, leaving a razor sharp edge. If you are going to be creating a garden path, this is one of the must have Gardening Tools. It comes in various sizes and you can even find scalloped edgers which will leave a nice scalloped finish.

Measuring Wheels

For planning your garden project, it's essential to have the correct measurements both before and after you work up a plan.

Measuring wheels are the best way to go about this and allow you to measure curves, lines and more in a very straightforward manner and without the need for stiff measuring tapes. A digital wheel is even easier and will let you save distances for comparison later.

Aggregate Rake

Unlike normal rakes, this type of Gardening Tools are specifically designed for grading soil and sand. They can also be used on other types of ground cover and works well for levelling out areas that are going to be planted. Look for nice wide heads that allow you to cover a large amount of space at once.

Lawn Sweeper

No matter how much effort you put into a lawn, it will never stay completely clear of debris. Twigs and leaves continuously blow down and clutter things up.

To remedy this problem without using a rake for hours every day, landscapers in the know simply use a lawn sweeper. This is pulled across the lawn and sweeps up all the debris into a basket, ready to be disposed of at your leisure. While this is not necessary a tool involved in creating the perfect landscape look, it is certainly useful in ongoing maintenance.

Path Trimmers

These can be either manual or gas or even electric powered, but they are invaluable for ongoing maintenance of an area. While a lawnmower will cut the grass in most areas, the edges of paths and plant beds can be very difficult and a path trimmer will allow you to get rid of those scraggly weeds that shoot up. Alternatively, you may prefer a string trimmer, which will simply trim the area without harming the finish of the path or flower bed.
