The garden owners had recently moved to the property and wanted a space they could enjoy with maximum Flower Beds for planting, Raised Beds and
a Patio large enough for a table and four chairs.
They decided to extend the Wall around the whole garden.
They wanted to be able to enjoy the morning sun near the house and the evening sun in the far left hand corner.
The Garden Design was set at an angle across the garden to maximize the feeling of space. Raised Beds of two different heights were used along with planting at ground level to soften the Raised Beds and give interest.
The Raised Beds were rendered in white to match the Wall around the garden, and a Paving and coping was chosen to complement the coping on the garden Walls and the paint work used for the windows and doors of the house.
The Raised Beds were also at a height suitable for sitting on.
The Pergola gave structural interest both in terms of its height and the shadow patterns on the Paving.
It also allowed the owners to grow climbing plants up it as well as framing the view up the garden to the Patio, and from the Patio back to the house.
A Water Feature was planned originally but taken out due to budget constraints. A sail was added by the home owners for shade.
The homeowners are keen gardeners and wanted as many different plants as possible in the garden.
The planting plan reflects this with lots of individual plants.
They were also keen on scent and wanted some specific plants such as hollyhocks.
The result is a colourful yet peaceful garden with interest from the planting all year round.
The owners are delighted with the feeling of space given the actual size of the garden, and the variety of colours, textures, and scents in the planting.
The owners particularly liked the fact that the Walls were the right height to for their one year old grandchild to hold on to as he was learning to walk!
