Retaining Walls with Circular Steps

This Retaining Walls project from blank canvass to completed presentation was achieved in three weeks. The project involved the design and installation of a complete back garden in a newly built detached dwelling house.

The biggest challenge in this project was to incorporate the geography of the site with its difficult contradictory slopes with the clients' desire to obtain a garden with a number of different features which allowed the visitor to 'travel around' the garden.

The main walling product used was Lanark wall blocks manufactured by Paver Systems now part of Stonemarket.

The finished garden gave the client three possible places to sit and enjoy the garden design; including circular paving, a simple flat wood deck design and an upper tiered paved area.

One of the means of access to the upper level of the garden is attained via the circular paving, laid through the walling, which is Marshalls Heritage paving colour Calder Brown. A converging path gives access to the gate in the rear fencing except that it is not a gate but a mirrored illusion!

Trellis fence panels were used to break up an area of the garden which also serve as an attractive feature.

The water feature achieves the aim of providing both a visual and auditory element in the garden whilst providing a further means of access to the upper level of the garden.

            The flower beds were built in and around the retaining walls and included;
