Size includes the overhang. Foot print of Pergola is 600mm less. For example: 2.7m x 2.7m Pergola will have a footprint size of 2.1m x 2.1m.
We allow a 300mm overhang per side for the rails, but these can be reduced or increased to suit your needs i.e. you decide when you are ready to erect the pergola.
All timber is treated against rot and fungus and will last a minimum of 15 years. Therefore, there is no need to treat posts that will be inserted into the ground.
These Pergola Kits are easy to assemble and no cutting, drilling or treating is required. 'U' brackets have been pre-fixed to aid quick assembly.
All pergolas are pre-built using structural graded timber (minimum grade C16) which is strong enough for most 'roof systems' should you require some shelter from the rain.

If that is your plan, it is recommended that you dig a hole 300mm to 400mm in depth.
