Bottle Water Feature with a Twist

Category: Water Features, Ponds & Aquatics

Garden Design Project: WTFGSG001

This Bottle Water Feature garden with a contemporary feel was hand drawn rather than using Vectorworks garden design software our preferred tool.

Plan
Despite its small size this town garden presented a raft of challenges. It lies at an unusual angle to the house and a high overbearing neighbouring wall, shades the rear of the garden casting a gloomy shadow.

The design conceals difficult angles. The addition of the element of water gives a sense of movement and energy. The pergola creates a secluded area for privacy.

Before Following careful assessment, it was clear that there was nothing of note to be salvaged or retained from the existing garden, in terms of trees, plants or materials.

Total clearance was required. After just two days only the garden shed remained standing!

water feature The garden now radiates form, colour and energy. The raised circle of paving creates a relaxing central space to take full advantage of the sunniest spot in the garden.

The water feature segments the garden into defined areas, each with its own character. The refurbished storage shed, has been transformed into an attractive little feature in its own right.

water feature The strategically positioned water feature means that it can be enjoyed from the house and from all corners of the garden.

The bubbling water and soft lighting gives the garden the vibrant energy it previously lacked.

Architectural planting brings natural new elements of style and structure adding, colour, form and texture.

Path The pathway and steps are edged with contrasting brick, to add definition and attractive detail as well as serving a functional role.

Setting the paving at 45 degrees gives the impression of movement and travel.

The raised planters with evergreens and grasses add year round, height, colour and texture.

Pergola The pergola structure creates a balance between the presence of the neighbouring brick wall and the level of the garden.

The area below has become a pleasant, secluded space, planted with lush, shade tolerant ferns and climbers.

The cream coloured timber blends well with the natural tones of the yellow stock brick behind.
